This part of the world woke up with news of a terrorist attack. Inquirer, The Philippine Star, and other major dailies screamed out the news: TERRORIST ATTACK ON US. The Internet is buzzing with news of the event. Four planes were used as weapons of mass destruction. Airplanes, with people, used to attack buildings, with more people.
The violence is appaling.
Theories are still floating around on who may be behind this attack. Right now, I'm watching CNN's coverage of the event. Other news agencies and news sites like the BBC and Ananova are following the news.
Is Bin Laden really behind this?
Why does man fight fellow man? Are we driving the human race towards annihilation?
I feel helpless, surrounded by this massive amount of information. I feel like I'm in the middle of a badly written novel. Snatches of Clancy's Executive Orders, as well as other novels and stories, are moving through my mind.
10:00pm, last night. I was about to go to sleep. My dad burst into the room, saying the World Trade Center in New York was attacked.
I'm afraid I was too morbidly curious. I joined my dad in watching the report on CNN. Images of the plane slamming into the South Tower flashed onscreen. I was shocked.
No, I think I felt that the US had it coming (so to speak). A lot of radicals have been against the US for being an interventionist in global politics. In other words, there were a lot of groups with an axe to grind.
Is the US really that bad?
What do we do in the aftermath?
How will it affect us, here in the Philippines?
So many questions. Yet, even in this connected world, we don't have all the answers.
On a side note, it's interesting to see the world's reaction to the event. A terrorist attack on a country like the US will definitely get world attention. A bombing such as December 31's Bloody Sunday here in the Philippines won't.
