• Bought two 32MB 72-pin EDO SIMMs. Coolness. My box now runs on a 96MB of RAM, and I can safely run resoure-intensive apps without too much disk-thrashing from page swaps. Heck, Linux barely uses my swap partition.
  • Reconfig'd my Slackware 8.1 installation, and almost lost all of my files in the process. Was suffering major data loss (and a semi-repeat of an incident under Mandrake), so I decided to test my luck and switch from ext3 to reiserfs. So far so good, as the system is doing better. Less disk access. I tar'd and bzip'd my home directories for the move (as I hadn't set up a separate partition for home directories— my mistake), but after reinstalling Slack, my home directory tar was corrupted (somehow). Spent a whole night recovering data.
  • Managed to set up a decent set of keymaps for BlackBox, via bbkeys. My muscle memory for 'Alt-Tab' is so ingrained, I'm using it to switch windows unconciously, even in X-Windows.
  • Got myself an old 300MB hard drive, courtesy of a friend of mine. I haven't decided what to use it for, but definitely not for critical data.
  • hdparm(8) doesn't seem to be working for my hard drive/chipset. Been trying to optimize stuff, but no dice. Running on SiS 5597 (IDE chipset 5513).
