  • Motorola SM56: Update

If you happen to be a Linux user, and are using the kludged binary, you might want to check out the vendor-updated driver here. The driver is packaged for RedHat 7.3, 8, and 9.

  • Anonymous posters...

… I’d prefer you identify yourselves. :) I appreciate your comments, but it’s really hard to figure out who you guys are.

  • Screwed... again

Apparently, I missed the deadline for enrollment and application confirmation. I had mistakenly thought it to be this week. Turns out this week is the first week of classes. I’m screwed, royally, and I am feeling tortured by all of this. My mom doesn’t know yet, and I’ll get yet another earful about responsibility and all that from my mom. (I know, I know, and I do think I should have checked, and that it is my responsibility to ensure I get enrolled.).

… from learning Velocity and Cocoon in the same day. I’m not even done yet.

  • New Year's Resolution

    1. I will refrain from staying up late during weekdays
    2. I will finish three personal projects within the year and release source on all of them
    3. I will push myself to study even while I'm working. I will push myself to excel in this school. I will bite my tongue, and not slack off even if the urge is strong.*
    4. I will save and scrimp. Honest.
    5. I will push myself to meet deadlines.
    6. By the end of this year, I should have read "The Island of the Day Before" (Umberto Eco), "How to Travel with Salmon" (? also Umberto Eco). I will get myself a copy of Neal Stephenson's "Cryptonomicon". I will also try to get William Gibson's "Count Zero", and Isaac Asimov's "Robot City".
    7. I will vote wisely.
    8. I will fix my website, and will start writing essays once more.

  • There and Back Again

(It annoys the hell out of me, the fact that I’m up this early in the morning. Mosquitoes have been feasting on me the whole night, and I’m itchy all over. Grr.)

  • Mobile...

…in baguio, using my sister’s new gprs-capable phone. Neat.

  • Cervisia

Although Eclipse is a nifty IDE (and runs ok on this box), I’ve gotten too used to Emacs, and so am a bit frustrated by Eclipse (even with some keybindings set to mimic Emacs). So, I’m opting to use Emacs instead to do code work, and use Cervisia as my CVS frontend (yes, Emacs does have a CVS frontend, but I’m used to GUIs, so there.).

  • SMS Gateways and Java

Playing around with the idea of integrating Java into the Kannel gateway somehow, in particular the smsbox component. I’m looking at Kannel’s latest CVS codebase, and it looks… scary. If ever, I’ll be bootstrapping the whole thing via interfacing with the existing components using JNI, then slowly porting code to the Java side. From the looks of things, I’ll most likely be leaving a large chunk still in C, specifically the code that handles talking to the bearerbox.
