This is ridiculous. WTF am I doing friend-whoring/surfing/whatever on Friendster?

I’m currently browsing my “personal network” under Friendster. Someone should do a paper on the implications of Friendster and similar tools as abstractions/models of the social network hyperspace/graph. Heck, that would be an interesting study— mapping social networks into hyperspace. Issues include navigation of such a hyperspace as presented by Friendster and related applications, and how other models/etc. can be used (i.e instead of HTML and hypertext, why not use visual cues via clustering? or navigating the social network hyperspace via interest clusters?)

Earlier this afternoon, I received a call on my cellphone. It was a landline I didn't recognize. So, I decided to answer it, to hell with whatever consequences there could possibly be.

An explanation why dropping ICMP packets via a firewall isn’t all that it’s cut out to be. (It’s a semi-old article, but I’ve only read it today.)

Ugh. I am starting to be annoyed by LogJam. Then again, I am using an older version— 3.0.4 to be exact, which is a GTK1 version. It dies on me fer cryin’ out loud. Must look at the code. Should be interesting though.

Look out for the group “Venus Hum”. (Heads-up courtesy of, of all places, MTV Asia). Songs to give a listen to: Soul Sloshing, Sonic Boom, Montana. Sound is electronica with a vocal edge (music press has been comparing them to a cross between Depeche Mode and Bjork). I actually like them, even if I don’t agree with Bjork.

Interesting article about orientations to studying. Link indirectly from her.

Recently, I’ve been working on a web-based LDAP browsing and administration tool, as a way of rewriting an earlier projcet. I’ve been doing it as both an exercise and a way to do something to keep my mind active. And recently, there was an email message on the Philippine Linux Users’ Group about it. Woot.
