• ... But I'm a tech geek. So sue me. =)

ANYWAY. I (yet again) shot myself in the foot last Saturday by accidentally turning my Linux reiserfs partition into a swap partition. Yes folks, a swap partition. I was resizing my partitions in hopes of separating my /home folders. I was using GNU parted to do the dirty work, and I was close to a breakthrough— I had planned to split my swap partition into swap + /home partition.

• Bought two 32MB 72-pin EDO SIMMs. Coolness. My box now runs on a 96MB of RAM, and I can safely run resoure-intensive apps without too much disk-thrashing from page swaps. Heck, Linux barely uses my swap partition.
• Reconfig'd my Slackware 8.1 installation, and almost lost all of my files in the process. Was suffering major data loss (and a semi-repeat of an incident under Mandrake), so I decided to test my luck and switch from ext3 to reiserfs. So far so good, as the system is doing better. Less disk access. I tar'd and bzip'd my home directories for the move (as I hadn't set up a separate partition for home directories— my mistake), but after reinstalling Slack, my home directory tar was corrupted (somehow). Spent a whole night recovering data.
• Managed to set up a decent set of keymaps for BlackBox, via bbkeys. My muscle memory for 'Alt-Tab' is so ingrained, I'm using it to switch windows unconciously, even in X-Windows.
• Got myself an old 300MB hard drive, courtesy of a friend of mine. I haven't decided what to use it for, but definitely not for critical data.
• hdparm(8) doesn't seem to be working for my hard drive/chipset. Been trying to optimize stuff, but no dice. Running on SiS 5597 (IDE chipset 5513).

Blackbox rules. Check out my current desktop. Sadly, I’m back to using my Geocities space for stuff like this. :(

I am the mission.
You're a mecha pilot!
You might be a sub-category of bishounen, but this hardly matters since you don't notice anything that didn't feature in the last edition of Guns'n'Ammo magazine. You have been trained since an unfeasibly early age to be a machine of death and destruction. If you've noticed an annoying girl following you arround and repeatedly getting into danger and requiring rescue recently, run like hell - she's probably your love interest...
• Testing...

Am using LogJam, the *nix-based LJ client... and testing it... :)

• Motorola SM56 kludge

Here’s how I did it:

• Disturbed

A little disturbed at the moment at remembering about this case, and reading about Mary Bell.

• Update: I was able to kludge and tweak Motorola's binary-only driver (that's now unsupported) to work with my Mandrake 8.1 installation. The modem now dials out and performs handshaking, but it won't connect (yet). Keep you people posted about any news, as well as complete details.

I wonder... can I—

And if you're wondering, I had to pull off being awake for a total of 3648 hours. The development team for PC2 (the scoring and submission program used in the contest) had emailed us about a serious problem, and we had to reconfigure 60++ computers to use an older version of the program. Oh well.
