I've been noticing a link to an RSS feed on my LJ and other LJs recently. I've been using Lynx as my browser of choice, so it's showing up at the top of the page. Hmm...

  • This is my first LiveJournal post using my own console-mode client. It’s still pretty basic. I can post entries that I’ve composed offline, but that’s about it as of now.

  • Reached a milestone in my LJ client. If you check out my complete userinfo page, under Clients used, you'll see an entry named Win32-LJPOST. I can now login with it.

  • I'm trying to run a configuration script of a Prolog compiler I just downloaded. It's frustrating since I've been running around, hacking the file, downloading Win32 ports of various *nix utilities (such as grep and sed), as well as a 500K++ shell (bash).

  • I can't access my friggin' guestbook (here). Grr. Damn. Assinine. Freak. (Am I describing myself here?)

  • Warning! Geek Speak!

I've ironed out most of the problems with my modem drivers. I don't experience the BSOD anymore (at least, it hasn't yet), I've eliminated the annoying "Change the country code" pop-up (changing the modem's country setting didn't work. Apparently it was checking the Windows telephony country code), and I'm getting really good 56K connections, even at my ISP. Well, almost. I have a hard time connecting to my ISP since their head-ends spew out garbage 8 times out of 10, instead of the login prompt. Bah-humbuig.

Meanwhile, I'm fixing the MT templates on my site. Hopefully, I can also fix the other parts of my site.

And if you're planning to send me mail, I might not get it after April 20 if you email me at my Edsamail address. Edsamail. is shutting down their free email service, and is planning to charge their users PhP1.00 per day, or PhP365.00 a year. Dammit. I want my free email!!! In the meantime, send your messages to cyberlizard0 AT yahoo.com or jmibanez AT info.com.ph .

  • BTW, one thing GM has over Online Journal is the fact my pages will get indexed by search engines; CGI paths are deliberately skipped by engines as "dead ends." However, since my DR account is only 5MB in size, GM will quickly accumulate kruft (duplicate data-- both the HTML output and the entry text</a>), while Online Journal will generate output on the fly.

  • Which do you think I should use, GreyMatter, or Online Journal? I can handle both, but I have to decide which one to use. GreyMatter is relatively massive (compared to Online Journal), and GreyMatter is better used for blogs (several entries per page), and I need a one-entry-per-page script. Online Journal is simple, but quite limited (output header, output text, output footer— that's about it). GreyMatter has a good support base; Online Journal doesn't seem to have one as extensive as GM's. GM's tags are pretty obtuse; however, they are powerful. I modified the Online Journal script to parse my special tags; however, they are limited. I have to FTP entries if I use Online Journal— contrast that to simply typing it up in GM.

  • Found two names that'll match to the same US name using the US name script. Typing 'CBC' or 'IBA' will output the same name. (Of course, CBC and IBA aren't real names, but it's just to demo how the script works). 'BH' and 'FF' will also output the same name (but not the same name as the CBC/IBA combination). By the way, if you're going to try these names out, be sure to have the names in either all uppercase or all lowercase.

  • I downloaded a drop-in malloc library replacement for debugging my pain-in-the-neck program. After unzipping, I realize (belatedly) that I need a UNIX shell to configure the damned library. I don't have a port of the library.
